Is there any reason I should upgrade to php 5 or should I continue to use php 4? Does php 5 have enhanced security or other benefits while running phpformmail? Are there any issues running the script with php 5? I ask after reading this article

I've decided to close off the forums since they aren't used much any more and I've stopped development on the two pieces of software that these forums support. I'm leaving the forums read only for reference purposes.

As far as phpformmail
As far as phpformmail directly, there is no advantage. As far as indirectly... They just announced the end of life for PHP4 so some time in the future they'll stop releasing fixes for php4.
Short version is, phpformmail works with php5, I would recommend upgrading eventually.
